Local WiFi: Direct connection on the same network — lowest latency, works offline. Both modes support persistent notes, chord charts, and lyrics per song.

Mix, Trim & Customize

Adjust levels, EQ each stem, mute vocals for karaoke, solo bass for practice. Trim start/end points with the waveform editor. Lock the mixer for stage use.

03

Share With Your Band

Two connection modes: Share Online sends live data through our cloud API relay — bandmates enter a 6-digit code or scan a QR code from any device, anywhere. No same WiFi needed. Both modes sync click, bars, sections, lyrics, and each bandmate's personal notes in real time.

04

Perform Live

Build a setlist — real songs and click-only tracks. Set transitions, go live. Export setlists as ZIP to share. Auto-advance, count-in, everyone on the same page.

05

Automate Your Show

What is Show Control?
Show Control (Band tier) lets you automate DMX lighting, video playback, and AI-generated stage visuals during a live performance. Lighting and video cues fire automatically based on bar position — no manual triggering needed. DMX output uses ArtNet over WiFi, compatible with most DMX-WiFi bridges. The AI generates a unique concert backdrop image for each song based on its BPM, key, and mood — displayed fullscreen on an external screen or projector with a cinematic Ken Burns animation.
How does AI stage visual generation work?
When you open Show Control for a song, The Ringer automatically generates a unique concert backdrop using GPT Image. The image is tailored to the song's title, artist, BPM, and key — a high-energy punk song looks different from a slow ballad. Images are generated once and cached, so they load instantly on subsequent performances. Generation is rate-limited to prevent unexpected costs (30 second cooldown, 10 per day). Each image costs approximately $0.07.
What DMX hardware is compatible?
Show Control uses ArtNet protocol over WiFi, compatible with most DMX-WiFi bridges including Enttec ODE MkII, Art-Net nodes, and other WiFi DMX bridges. Configure your bridge to receive ArtNet on universe 0, enter the IP address in Show Control settings, and The Ringer will broadcast DMX values wirelessly.
Can I scan a handwritten setlist?
Yes — on iOS, tap the scan button in the Setlist view to photograph any handwritten, printed, or on-screen setlist. AI extracts every song title, infers BPM, key, and time signature for each, and builds your setlist automatically. Review and edit before saving. All scanned songs are created as click-only entries — no stems needed.
How does AI stem separation work?
Uses Demucs (Meta Research) to analyze frequency patterns and isolate vocals, bass, drums, guitar, piano, and other instruments from a mixed song. Runs locally on your Mac or via our cloud server.
Do bandmates need to install anything?
No. Bandmates go to companion.theringerapp.com, enter the 6-digit code you share, and they're connected. Works on any phone, tablet, or computer with a browser. No app, no account, no same WiFi required. They can also "Add to Home Screen" for offline access between gigs.
What are click-only songs?
Songs added to your setlist with just a click track — no stems or audio files needed. Set the BPM, key, and time signature manually or use the AI lookup. Great for songs you haven't separated yet, or acoustic numbers where you just need a click.
Can bandmates prep notes at home between gigs?
Yes! Bandmates' notes, chord charts, and lyrics are stored locally on their phone. Notes are keyed by song title + artist, so if the same song appears in a different setlist or a different session code, their notes are already there. They can prep offline between gigs — everything is ready when they reconnect.
Does it work without internet?
Yes! After initial setup, stem separation runs locally. Playback, mixing, companion viewer, and live mode all work on your local network — no cloud required.
What formats are supported?
MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, M4A, OGG, OPUS, WMA, and YouTube URLs (Band tier).
Can I share setlists with other Ringer users?
Yes — export any setlist as a ZIP file that includes all stems, mixer settings, and metadata. Another Mac running The Ringer can import it and have every song ready to play instantly.
What's the difference between Local WiFi and Share Online?
Local WiFi connects bandmates directly to your Mac over the same network. It has the lowest latency and works completely offline — great for rehearsal spaces with no internet. Share Online uses our cloud API relay, so bandmates can join from any location with internet by entering a 6-digit code. Both modes sync the same data: live click, bar/beat position, song sections, lyrics, and personal notes. You can use both simultaneously — some bandmates on WiFi, others online.
How does Share Online work?
Toggle "Share Online" in the Companion panel — you get a 6-digit code and QR code. Bandmates enter the code at companion.theringerapp.com from any device, anywhere. The connection goes through our cloud API relay server, so bandmates don't need to be on the same WiFi — they can be across town or across the country. The API syncs song changes, beat position, bar counts, and section markers in real time with predictive timing for zero perceived lag. Session codes persist across app restarts, and each bandmate's notes, chord charts, and lyrics are stored locally on their device and keyed by song title, so they carry over to any future session automatically.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Your songs and mixes stay on your Mac. You revert to Free tier limits.
Is there a Windows or Android version?
The Ringer is available on macOS, iOS (iPhone & iPad), and Android. A Windows version is not yet available. The companion viewer works on any device with a browser — no app needed for bandmates. All stem separation runs on our cloud API, so mobile users get the same AI-powered processing as Mac users.
